Announcing the First Annual Battle of the Bands
05.12.07 | The OHS Music Boosters are very excited to announce their newest fund raiser — The First Annual OHS Music Boosters Battle of the Bands will be 7 pm on June 1st, at Bridge View Center in Ottumwa.
Rock and Country Bands made up of high school students located within a 45 mile radius of Ottumwa are encouraged to send video auditions to Dennis Vasconez, c/o the Ottumwa High School Music Department. A panel of judges will choose 4 finalists from the field.
Those finalists will be required to sell 30 admission tickets to the main event as their entry fee (that way they can bring their own groupies!) At that event, they will be required to put on a one-hour performance, where they will be judged on their musicianship, stage presence, professionalism, entertainment value and audience response. Bands are not required to write their own songs, but song-writing abilities and originality are also considered in the judging process.
The winner of the contest will receive a number of prizes, including an opportunity to open for the Mathew Clay Band. They will automatically be a contestant in the West Music state Battle of the Bands contest in Coralville, IA.
Our main fund raising will come from the sale of Admission Tickets (our goal is to sell at least 300 tickets in total), however, we will also get a cut of the concessions, as some of our kids will be helping to man the booths. We are also tossing ideas of t-shirt sales around.
Admission Tickets to the event cost $5.00 (for any age) and will be available at West Music or through the Music Dept. at the Ottumwa High School.
This event could not have been possible without the help of our sponsors which include: West Music, Cargill Meat Solutions, Allen's Outlet, Copy Max Plus, and Belzer Equipment all in Ottumwa, and Ottumwa Radio (including 101.5 Kiss fm, 104.3 New Country KRKN fm, 1240 KBIZ am, and 92.7 KTWA fm).
